At the heart of the Deep Blue Polyphenol Complex dōTERRA
Extract from the root of Curcuma longa
The turmeric rhizome is boiled, dried and then ground, a preparation unchanged for centuries in India. Its orange colour comes from the curcuminoids, on which the extract is standardised. The root enters here in dry, concentrated form, a long way from the kitchen spice.
Extract from the rhizome of Zingiber officinale
The ginger rhizome is dried and then solvent-extracted, a method that retains the gingerols behind its bite. Unlike the essential oil, which is obtained by distillation, the extract also keeps the non-volatile compounds of the root. It therefore brings a fuller material than the oil alone.
Extract from the gum resin of Boswellia serrata
Frankincense is obtained by scoring the bark of the tree, which beads a gum resin that hardens in the air into amber tears. The dry extract is drawn from it with a solvent, where the essential oil goes through distillation. It therefore keeps the boswellic acids, which the oil does not contain.
Extract from the seeds of Vitis vinifera
The seeds are what is left of the harvest once the grapes have been pressed. Dried and then milled, they yield a highly tannic extract, from the same family of compounds that give ageing red wines their astringency. Its red-brown tint is visible in the powder of the capsules.
Extract from the fruit of Punica granatum
It is the rind and the white membranes of the pomegranate, not the seeds, that concentrate the punicalagins, tannins of pronounced bitterness. The extract is drawn from the whole fruit after drying. Its deep colour, between red and brown, is visible in the powder of the capsules.
