Douglas Fir essential oil, sold by dōTERRA France as Pin Douglas, is a light conifer oil, for those who find resinous scents too heavy. The Douglas fir is North America’s great Christmas tree, and its scent is sweet and fresh, with a lemony note that brings it closer to citrus than to resin.

Rich in β-pinene, its aroma promotes a positive, inspiring atmosphere: a few drops in the diffuser, alone or with a citrus oil such as Grapefruit, freshen a room or accompany a work session. A drop in your facial cleanser, bar soap or body wash boosts cleansing and gives the routine an invigorating aroma; added to cleaning water, it also cleans surfaces. Diluted, it makes a massage energising. dōTERRA sources it from young trees in New Zealand, where the species, introduced for timber, is invading native forests: distilling it helps protect them.

Instructions

Aromatic use: add three to four drops to the diffuser of your choice.

Topical use: always dilute in a carrier oil, 5 drops per 10 ml for massage, 5 drops per 5 ml in the bath, 1 drop per 10 drops as a perfume. For local use only.

Interesting fact

The Douglas fir is named after the Scottish botanist David Douglas, who introduced it to Britain in 1827. Its Latin name, Pseudotsuga, means “false hemlock”: neither a true fir nor a pine, it forms a genus of its own.
