Discover the benefits of Marjoram essential oil
Marjoram, or Origanum majorana, also known as winter sweetness or mountain joy, is a perennial herb in the Lamiaceae family that thrives in warm climates. The marjoram plant produces tiny, tubular, white or pale pink flowers, and its green, ovoid leaves give off a light fragrance. The dried leaves can be used in cooking or steam distilled to produce the precious marjoram essential oil.
Marjoram was a symbol of happiness for the ancient Greeks and Romans. Commonly known for its ability to spice up dishes, Marjoram essential oil is a unique culinary aid.
The herbaceous flavor of Marjoram essential oil can be used in soups, stews, salad dressings, and sauces. Very potent compared to dried seasonings, spices, or other flavoring agents, even the smallest amount can intensely flavor your dish.
When using it in cooking, be sure to use the toothpick method, which involves dipping the tip of a clean toothpick into the bottle of essential oil and then mixing the ingredients with the toothpick. After stirring the dish with the toothpick, taste to decide whether or not you want to add more oil.
When diffused, marjoram oil blends well with bergamot, cypress, lavender and rosemary oils to create a most pleasant aroma.
