At the heart of Vanilla Plant Protein dōTERRA
Protein isolate from Pisum sativum
The yellow pea is hulled, milled and put into solution, where the protein is separated from the starch and fibre before being dried into a powder. The isolate holds most of the seed’s protein, which makes it the base of the formula. Its neutral taste leaves all the room to cocoa or vanilla.
Protein concentrate from Cicer arietinum
Grown around the Mediterranean for more than seven thousand years, the chickpea is turned here into a protein concentrate. Less refined than an isolate, it keeps part of the seed’s fibre and starch. It complements the pea and rounds out the texture of the drink.
Protein isolate from Solanum tuberosum
Potato protein is recovered from the juice of the tuber when its starch is extracted, then purified and dried. Unassuming on the plate, it turns into an almost white powder with no marked taste. It brings a third plant source to the formula, quite distinct from the legumes.
Protein concentrate from Oryza sativa
The rice grain is treated with enzymes that separate its protein from the abundant starch. The resulting concentrate has a mild, slightly cereal taste. Pairing a cereal with a legume is an old principle of plant-based cooking, which the formula takes up with the pea.
